What is The Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa?
The Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa is a non-profit organization, founded in 2012, to encourage financial stewardship and generosity by providing an avenue for faith-based giving.
Why was the Catholic Foundation created?
The Foundation exists to assist individuals who wish to provide lasting financial support to religious, educational, and charitable organizations that serve the people of the Diocese of Des Moines. We manage long-term investments in organizations that you care about.
The Catholic Foundation can also serve parishes, schools, and diocesan organizations as they seek to create and/or strengthen their foundations. Establish a fund with The Catholic Foundation and watch it grow to help make a long-term sustainable difference in the life of your organization.
How will The Catholic Foundation serve the Catholic Church in Southwest Iowa?
The Catholic Foundation will make distributions and grants from restricted funds as designated by donors and from unrestricted funds as developed. These funds will benefit Catholic parishes, schools, the ministries of the diocese, and other Catholic organizations so the gifts will go to work right here in our southwest Iowa community.
Who governs and operates The Catholic Foundation?
The Catholic Foundation has the same governing structure as parishes and schools throughout the Diocese of Des Moines. A Members board of five, including the Bishop, Vicar General, Vice Chancellor and two lay trustees hold reserve powers of governance. The Diocese of Des Moines does not govern or own The Catholic Foundation.
A Board of Directors consults and advises on policy and operations of The Catholic Foundation. These directors are leaders in parishes and communities across the diocese and are accountable to both donors and recipients. The board meets quarterly. Its committees meet regularly to conduct foundation business. As good stewards, they have hired professional investment counsel to manage and invest the assets of The Catholic Foundation and have year-end financial statements audited.
The Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa's investment strategies are guided by moral and socially responsible investing guidelines established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) which ensures investments are in concert with "Catholic Values".
